Returning Starters: 7 O, 8 D
Player to Watch: Nick Altermatt, QB/DB
The Rabbits are the favorites with 15 total starters returning from last year’s state semifinalist, which also ended Minneota’s reign in Class A.
Wabasso is experienced at almost every position on the field except running back and defensive tackle. Coach Joe Kemp will have to find replacements for Mitchell Fulton and Jared Welch, the dynamic backfield duo which combined for around 2,900 yards and 41 touchdowns last fall. Both players were two-time All-District selections, and both also started on the Rabbits defense.
With the uncertainty at running back, senior quarterback Nick Altermatt figures to have a larger role in the offense next season. Two-way starters Ty Kemp (OL/LB) and Colton Taylor (WR/CB) will be the defensive leaders after posting All-District campaigns in 2016.
